Keep that cordless tool out of the landfill

I meant to throw out the cordless drill I had purchased 12 or 13 years ago. But I couldn't, even though the two rechargeable battery packs that came with it barely worked. With the high cost of replacement batteries, trashing the old and buying a new tool seemed like the best deal. But something really bothered me about throwing away something that still works. Adding more to the landfill just didn't seem right. So, the drill has been sitting idle in my workshop for a few years now.
Fast-forward to this year's Canadian Home Workshop show, at which a company called BatteryBuyer.com, which sells rechargeable battery packs for cordless tools, set up a booth. I thought it unlikely that they would carry a 9.6-volt battery for my old drill, but I was proven wrong. They had the battery right there. The price was reasonable for a nickel-metal hydride battery rated at 3.0 Ah-more run time than the original.
After using the old drill with the new replacement battery for many weeks, I am absolutely thrilled. The drill seems more powerful than ever and the charge lasts for a long time. I then discovered that the company sells batteries for a huge number of devices, not just cordless tools. I'm talking about cell- and cordless phones, watches, digital cameras, camcorders and even hearing aids. The list is too long to cover here, but you can review all of the products for yourself on the company's website.
