The sign of a true artisan is the pride taken in the finer details of a project. The choice of grain orientation and cutout are simple details with visual impact.

Three Step Finish Apply finish to protect the four assemblies, even on the inside of the post-and-panel centre to balance moisture resistance. I use water-soluble aniline dye, followed by an oil-based wiping stain, and finished with polyurethane.
The wiring assembly holds the lamp base together. If you are familiar with wiring, you can assemble the parts yourself. Otherwise, buy a ready-made kit from the hardware store.
You can also have the stained glass for the shade cut for you or make it another DIY project. To affix the glass, work on one pane at a time with the shade lying inverted. Apply a small amount of clear silicone caulking in the corner of the rabbets. Press in the glass, then quickly apply a bead of silicone all around the inside, wiping off any excess. Add a little weight while the caulking cures.
Add a light bulb and light up your favourite room with a little Mission flair.
